South African Schools are from diverse communities in which many families are struggling with poverty.  We are shifting our  approach to leverage the potential of digital tools and resources to improve the learning outcomes of those poverty-stricken learners.    The Free Educational platform Office 365 provides an easy-to-use digital foundation for all teachers' and schools.  With this collaboration struggling schools can easily be assisted, improving teaching within and across schools all over the country.

Most educators already own smartphones and just about every household can access a smartphone for now. The reality of providing a device per teacher and per non-fee-paying learner is a lot more achievable than providing new classrooms, water and sanitation and infrastructure.

 Schools' lack of financial resources and the practical realities of classroom teaching often make it difficult for teachers to network with each other face-to-face during the school day, so powerful digital learning environments, such as Microsoft Teams, create new opportunities for teachers to participate in professional learning.

These devices make teaching learners with special educational needs, over-crowded classes and learners-in-absentia possible.  It is not a tool simply for online teaching.  It will help us through the Covid-19 and far beyond that.
