A fun, joyful enriching experience
A stimulating exciting parent workshop on the joys and benefits of reading was held on Friday 30th August in the Kenmont Library. It was a truly team inspired event, hosted by the Speech Therapy Department, Foundation Phase and the Library staff, with support from the rest of the therapy teams (occupational, remedial, and psychology teams). The most important members of the team were, of course, our committed parents who attended the event.
Parents were welcomed to the bright, cheerful library… chocful of enticing books. 📷
A beautiful prepared and informative information pack was presented to each parent. It included handy tips and explanations as well as sample games and mini books. There was also a beautiful bookmark which included a list of websites and apps where parents could access a treasure trove of free books.
The star attraction was undoubtedly the enthralling reading aloud of a much loved classic story, The Billy Goats Gruff! This was read aloud by our very own star performer, aka, Grade R teacher, Mrs Gwillam.
Various members of the team took turns to highlight important aspects of the value of reading, including vocabulary development, comprehension, sequencing and oral expression. This was done in a fun way, referring back to the actual story.
…and of course, everyone lived happily ever after…
The end
Thank you so much for book donations to the school.
